This is an amazing find for the collector of rare children's books - an unused painting book published in 1897 by the McLoughlin Bros of New York that features 8 of their incredible chromolithograph or color plates, in addition to the one on the cover. If you look at the instruction page inside the front cover, it recommends what types of paint to use and notice at the end that it explains that there are 2 outline pictures for each of color pictures, for trial and error. Most of the illustrations have a copyright by McLoughlin on them with a date of 1897. I tried to show as many of the chromos as I could, so you could appreciate them - be sure to see the photos. Please pardon the glare on the illustrations on the left side of the page from my camera.
This book is complete, but no one ever painted in it. There is light wear on the front cover, with a number 10 written in pencil at the top, some spine wear, some scuffs on the back cover and some corner bumps and bends. Inside is wonderful - no writing and no painting, just all those wonderful illustrations, the two of each for tracing/practice and some blank pages. The pages are clean, with the exception of a few light scuffs and a stray small spot here and there.
