Here is a wonderful Civil War era photo album. The front is embossed with ‘Margaret, from Brother Frank’ and the back is embossed ‘Christmas, 1864’. The outside of the album is in good condition with a few rub marks due to age. The edges are gold color and embossed with roses. Both hasps are in working order. As the album is open there is separation from the spine due to age. This is also true for the back cover. The album does have age foxing on the photo pages. A couple of the photo pages have small tears where the photos are inserted. The index has one name, ‘Martin Luther’. There are no photos in the album. There are 25 pages in the album. The album was part of a Maryland estate where several Civil War uniforms, rifles, blankets, letters and other artifacts were sold. We have no last name for Margaret or her brother Frank.
The album is a large size for the era measuring 9 1/2 inches by 6 inches and is 2 1/2 inches thick. Considering the album in over 150 years old it is good condition but does show some wear. Please review the pictures as they are part of the description. This is a wonderful relic from the Civil War and would make a great addition to any collection.
