This is a beautiful piece of fretwork from the Victorian era - a miniature frame with needlepoint inside. It is beautifully carved with tons of detail and measures 5.5 by 8.25 inches. On the back left bottom, written in pencil, is says Philadelphia Centennial 1876 in pencil with a name below it to denote when they bought it and where - across from that on the other side, also written in pencil, it says Holly Wood, for the type of wood. It also has its original price tag on the top back which says it cost 30 cents. It is all original except for the cardboard backing, which is obviously newer, but has its original glass.
It is in good condition, but there is a little wear - a small crack on the left side that looks as if it might have been repaired, or a repair was attempted, at some point (please use the Ruby Lane zoom function on the photos, as we have shown this area well) and some of the tips of the carved wood have nicks and a few have broken off, which is not uncommon, considering the age and the fragility. Overall, though, this is a lovely and very unique old piece that has survived many years.
