This is a lovely early Victorian children's book published in 1884 by D. Lathrop and Company of Boston called The Pansy Stories of Child Life at Home and Abroad and of Modern and Ancient History. It was edited by Mrs. G.R. Alden. It is a hardcover volume with pictorial cover and advertising on the back. It has 416 pages and is illustrated throughout in black and white. There is a name and date written inside the front cover, but otherwise, the pages are clean. The binding/cover is attached, although with a later repair using tape in the inside front and inside back. The spine also shows some wear, as does the cover and there are corner bumps. The repair has held it together, though, but it should be handled with care.
