This is a 1914 mezzotint print that has been printed in colors and is signed by artist and engraver Will Henderson after the 1820s original painting by Sir John Watson Gordon and Henry Raeburn. It is believed that Raeburn started the painting but that Gordon finished it sometime around 1825. The subject is John Taylor, Captain of the Honourable Company of the Edinburgh Golfers – a number of times between 1807 and 1825. The print is behind black and gold reversed painted glass with John Taylor Golfer printed in gold. There is some of the the reverse painted glass peeling away. Please examine the pictures as they are part of the description. The print has an embossed oval with F V E an is signed by Will Henderson in the lower left corner. The frame does have paint loss of about 25 % but the print is in good condition with a few spots of foxing. The back of the print has been repapered but the original label from the Purnell Art Company was retained. The frame measures 31 by 23 inches. This is a perfect example of sporting golf rich heritage.
