From the estate of a local gentleman who served in the Merchant Marines during World War II comes this blue wool navy hat or cap, sometimes called the crackerjack cap, with gold lettering. It is all original and has not been cleaned. It has its original leather band inside and leather diamond on the inside top. Overall condition is good, but the new owner may want to clean it. The leather band is strong, but the darker leather diamond on the inside top has some cracking. Its wide ribbon band around the outside states U.S. Navy in gold lettering. It does look as if it was worn, but is still strong. I don't see any flea bites to the wool, as sometimes happens, and this was clearly stored flat. It has the remnants of a label inside, but most of it is gone, so I can't tell you the size or maker. The band is around 22 inches. This is a nice piece for the collector.
