Here's a beautiful quality hand-stamped silver concho belt by Navajo Nation artist Jennifer Blackgoat.
Measuring in at 35&1/2," this wonderful hand-stamped piece features 15 conchos--detailed shell-like sterling oval discs that measure 1&3/4" x 1."
The Navajos owned concha belts long before they learned the trade of silversmithing. Jennifer or Jennie Blackgoat, as she was known, was born into a family of silversmiths. She learned the trade from her mother Helen Blackgoat, who learned it from her father, Moses Blackgoat, who is said to have been the first in the family to work with silver. The Blackgoat family hails from the Lupton area in Colorado.
The conchos are strung together with nice large rounded rings, all hand-fabricated. The belt fastens with a silver clip/hook that is stamped "J BLACKGOAT."
Weight: 104.8 grams.
Excellent condition. No damage, no dents. Light tarnishing on the back. There are no metal marks but the belt tests as sterling silver.
