This lovely perfume bottle displays the skilled craftsmanship of a French artisan working in the Art Nouveau era (1890-1910).
The front centres on a gorgeous raised iris with beautifully swirled petals and flowing spear-shaped leaves. The artistry of the Art Nouveau period focused on flowing lines and organic, asymmetric forms, created by repousse work and hand-chasing techniques. Many small silver pieces were so ornate they took upward of 90 hours to create.
This wonderful bottle has a hinged round cap that opens by pushing up. Inside is a hand-made piece of cork that should do the trick if you want to add perfume.
This bottle is the perfect size to carry in your purse. It measures 2&1/4" tall by 1" at its widest point. Weight is 11.7 grams.
Excellent condition, with light antique wear. The piece is stamped with double boar heads, the French mark for silver, and maker's mark. They are tiny and stamped on the bottle's neck (please see last two photos).
