The diamond solitaire is still the most popular style of engagement ring, but not all of them were created equally.
This ring, for example, is a beautiful vintage piece with a lovely solitaire design; it houses a stunning 0.55 ct. old European cut diamond with incredible sparkle, colour and clarity. Being an old-cut diamond gives this diamond a chunky appearance--much nicer, in my opinion, than the more modern-cuts.
The glittering diamond is held in place by 18K white gold claws and set in an 18K yellow gold mount. Also yellow gold, the band splits at the shoulders and attaches to the claws near the top. There is some lovely detailing where the shoulders meet the top of the band. Ring rises up approx. 4 mm from the top of the finger--not too high.
Current size is 6&1/4 and the ring can be re-sized to fit. Weight: 3.2 grams.
Condition is excellent. No damage, just slight vintage wear in keeping with age and use. The inner band is stamped with the diamond carat weight: ".55". Also, maker's mark "HJF," the gold crown guarantee, "750" for 18K, and the Birmingham Assay Office mark.
