Terrific antique diamond gypsy ring has a beautiful star setting!
This classic gypsy ring features a sparkling 1/4 carat old mine cut diamond that has been dropped into a star shaped recess. The star or starburst setting makes a beautiful bed for the fiery round diamond. The faceted antique stone is very white and bright, with no damage whatsoever.
Gypsy rings date back to the 1890s and earlier, and were worn by both men and women. Like this ring, they were typically wider at the centre and set with one or three gemstones.
The front of the ring is 18K yellow gold with a lovely satin finish; the back of the ring, meanwhile, is 9K rose gold (also satin finished). I can only assume that the shank had become thin and was replaced or built up with 9K gold as it is stronger than 18K. You can see the difference in colours in my photos, but it isn't visible when you are wearing the ring.
The ring is currently size 7.5 and it can be re-sized to fit. Weight is a good 4.7 grams. Widest part at the front is 6.5 mms.
As mentioned, condition is very, very good. No damage, just normal antique wear.
Inner band is not marked but tests as 9K; front of ring tests as 18K.
