Vintage c.1960 self-tie skinny batwing bow tie in an olive slub silk is adjustable and features a hand-blocked foulard print of tiny crimson and yellow squares.
The black silk neckband facing reads “Adjustable, All Silk” and has “ruler” increments from a size 14 to a size 17 ½. A manufacturer’s tag is also present, which reads “A/R All Silk” on one side and “Hand Block, Printed in England” on the other.
Imported hand-blocked silk foulard neckwear--from England or sometimes Italy--was an elegant menswear staple in the late 50s and early 60s, with the preferred colors typically muted.as in this example.
Measurements are 32” long and 1 1/3” wide. Currently adjusted for a 16.5 neck size, the bow tie can be shortened for a smaller neck but not made any larger.
Very good condition; only issue is slight discoloration to the label (photo #5).
