Vintage late 1940s sterling brooch features a cantering horse, framed by a horseshoe that arches over and almost fully encloses it.
The horse is applied to the horseshoe at its head, right foreleg and right hind leg, and otherwise seems to be suspended in mid air, giving the piece a feeling of graceful motion.
Brooch is stamped “STERLING” in two places on the back, and pinstem closes securely with a locking clasp.
Photo #7 shows 1940s ads for sterling brooches with similar equestrian motifs.
Measuring 2” high and 2” across and with a digital weight of 13 grams, this brooch is in excellent condition.
