Vintage late 1950s brooch from Kimler & Daniel features a pair of marcasite-studded roses in an openwork sterling filigree brooch.

The gently domed construction of the brooch is heightened by the 3-D appearance of the convex roses, which seem suspended in air amidst the lacy oval of the brooch.

Reverse of each rose is stamped “STERLING KD”, with a “6” on both stems (presumably a component or design number).

According to Rainwater, the NY-based Kimler & Daniel firm was in business from approximately 1943-1965, and sterling marcasite jewelry appears to have been their specialty.

Roses (especially carved ivory roses, sometimes enhanced by marcasites) were a jewelry motif popular in the late 50s through late 60s, and this brooch was made at the start of the trend. Measuring 1 5/8” across by 1 ¼’ high and with a digital weight of 7 grams, this pretty brooch is in excellent condition.
