Stunning French cut steel micro-beaded purse with double chain handle from the late teens or early 1920s features a geometric floral design in light blue, gold, and silver and has a twisted loop fringe in silver and gold beads.
Though identical on both sides, the design uses a pale, ice blue steel bead in front front and a darker, more electric shade of blue for the back. All the blue and silver beads are faceted cut steel, while the gold beads (also metal) are unfaceted.
Embossed with foliate motifs, the gilt brass frame opens with a plunger-style clasp and has a wreath-shaped drop pendant in front. The gold satin jacquard lining appears to be a replacement, to which the original "Made in France" label has been attached.
Measuring 5 ½" by 7 ½", with 1 ¼" of fringe and a 16" handle, the purse is in excellent condition, with no missing beadwork that I can detect. Only issue is age-related finish wear to the chain of the handle.
