Vintage mid- to late 1990s Mexican sterling ladybug brooch features bug eyes, 2 pairs of legs, and a plump, domed body adorned with 7 dots of black enamel.
Stamps on the “underside” of the brooch read: Mexico, TC-254, and 925. The letter “T” indicates that the silver artisan is registered in Taxco, and the number “254” indicates that he was the 254th person registered whose last (or first) name began with a “C”.
This particular ladybug design appears to have been a favorite of this silversmith, with some examples mixing in a brass head and legs, or substituting black enamel stripes for the dots in this one.
Measuring 1 5/8” long by 1” across the body, and with a digital weight of 16 grams, this charming Taxco silver brooch is in excellent condition.
