Vintage late 1940s or early 1950s sterling brooch from Georg Jensen features the iconic dove design created for him in the early 1900s by Danish artist Christian Mohl-Hansen. Beak nestled peacefully in its right wing, the bird is surrounded by an oblong wreath of leaves with a silver “pearl” in each corner. The beautifully detailed piece, handmade like all Jensen silver, is a wonderful blend of swirling, hand-hammered or polished texture, and stylized modernism.
The reverse is stamped with the company’s post-1945 mark above the words “Sterling” and “Denmark”, and then the design number, 204.
Measuring 1 ½’ x 1 1/8” and with a digital weight of 11.3 grams, the brooch is in excellent condition. There is a clutch on the pinstem which, though presumably not original to manufacture, I’ve left in place to avoid damaging the pinstem in sliding it off. (The safety catch is in perfect working order).
