Sweet early 1890s lace pin in 14 karat gold features a sinuous Art Nouveau design suggestive of a stylized figure eight or bow motif, with a seed pearl accenting either “end” of the ribbon.
The pin is stamped “14K” and “Pat Dec 12 92” on the reverse of both “halves” , indicating that a jeweler created it of twin components with a design patent of December 12, 1892. (Thanks to VFG colleague and jewelry expert Laura Milera of Metro Retro Vintage for her help in understanding the reason for the double marking).
The pinback, which is of a rosier-toned gold and has a modern safety catch and rivet hinge, is clearly a later replacement—possibly as late as mid-twentieth century.
Measuring 1 ½” x ½” and with a digital weight of 2.1 grams, this dainty pin is in very good condition with a slight bend to the pinstem.
