Vintage early 1960s narrow, square-bottomed silk necktie made by Emilio Pucci for Lord & Taylor features a striking but subtle geometric brocade in black, red and steel blue.
Applied in a central panel, the brocade pattern works paired trapezoids and parallelograms with triplets of “windows” in them into an interlocking horizontal chain of shapes that seems to twist like a double helix.
Fully faced in logo-printed blue silk, the tie has Pucci’s signature hand-sewn slip stitch up the center back, yet one more characteristic of a luxury tie construction.
Labelled “Emilio Pucci, Florence-Italy” on the bottom of the small blade, it has a second label which reads “Made in Italy expressly for Lord & Taylor by Emilio Pucci” positioned as the keeper on the back of the front blade.
Lord & Taylor introduced Pucci’s designs to the American public with a collection of ski wear in 1948. Though Pucci didn’t design a full-fledged men’s collection until the late 60s, he had begun to design ties by the late 1950s.
Measuring 53” long and 2 1/3” across the blade, this tie is in excellent condition.
