Perfect as a doll accessory, this 1920s steel beaded coin purse in an envelope shape features a design of scrolls and flowers in shimmery blue on a gold-accented silver-grey ground. Design is identical on front and back.
The envelope flap closes with a pearl button, and the purse is lined in a pretty brocaded cream silk.
Steel-beaded purses—both full- and coin-sized—were advertised by 1920s jewelery stores as gift-friendly “novelties” or “trinkets”, ideal for sweetheart or graduate. Envelope flap steel beaded purses with pearl button closures came into vogue in the early 20s.
Measuring 2 ¾” across by 2 ½” high, this sweet little coin purse is in fair to good condition. The purse lining is clean and all beads present but one at the right-most edge of the flap (photo #5). However, the beads have darkened, especially around the edges of the purse, dulling the design, and the unoxidized beads under the flap are noticeably lighter.
