Vintage early 1950s navy, yellow & white silk wide tie from neckwear giant Superba features a fabulous trompe l’oeuil fish net print, with miniature fish snared in the cells of the mesh. Superba silk ties retailed for between $1.50 and $5.00 in 1952 (roughly equivalent to between $14 and $45 today, adjusted for inflation), and the repeating design might have been described in a period ad as a foulard.
Measuring 50” long and 4 ½” across the blade, the tie is labelled “Superba Cravats, Since 1873”, with a fabric tag that reads “Superba Silk”.
Very good/excellent condition, with just a hint of discoloration to the front tipping (lining of the blade).
