Vintage early 60s Rooster adjustable batwing cotton bow tie features an Ikat-inspired abstract print in kaleidoscopic bursts of red, ocher, black, and cream.
It has both manufacturer and store labels; labelled “Rooster, All Cotton, WPL 13303”, it was sold at “A. Cahaly Ltd.”
The Philadelphia-based Rooster, Inc. was founded in 1957 and popularized the square-ended skinny cotton or wool tie, selling its whimsical designs in gift and specialty stores until it became a major tie manufacturer in the 70s.
Alexander Cahaly’s menswear store was a Harvard Square landmark in business since the mid-1950s; by the early 1990s it had, in order to stay in business, shifted its traditional focus to trendier ware geared to a tourist clientele.
Measures 34.5” long by 1.5” across the blades.
From the Back Bay estate of an older gentleman with bow tie collection spanning three decades, this collectible bow tie is in excellent condition.
