Vintage 1940s carved wood and lucite brooch features a wonderfully detailed cockatoo, sitting perched with tucked wing. Its ruffled crest is visually echoed by its long, fanned tailfeathers, as well as by the sweep of its deeply grooved wing. A simple dot of red paint represents the bird's eye.
An especially successful combination of carved wood and lucite (sometimes with this genre of brooch, the materials don't seem balanced and it's hard to "see" the animal or bird depicted), it has a c-clasp pinback riveted to the lucite, which the wooden "wing" is securely glued on top of.
Measuring a touch under 4" high and 1" across the middle, the brooch is in excellent condition.
