Hand-tailored vintage late 40s wide tie features a rustic block print of wine, red, mauve, ecru and wheat leaves. The satin fabric—probably rayon—has a rippling moire pattern and is jacquarded with composite diamond designs as well. Blades of the tie are tipped in cream satin.
Manufacturer's label reads "Windsor Cravats, Hand Made". I haven't been able to learn much about the company, which appears to have been based in California, but likely the company's name was chosen for its historical evocation of the Windsor cravat (described in an 1863 ad as "a production of taste and art worthy of George the Fourth or Beau Brummel, the most exquisite necktie ever invented") or the Windsor knot associated with Edward, the abdicating duke of the late 30s.
Measuring 49" long and 4" across the blade, this handsome vintage tie is in excellent condition.
NOTE: The color is "truest" in the close-up photos.
