Vintage late 1950s into early 1960s square end skinny tie features a striking Asian satin brocade in lacquer red-and-black, patterned with horizontal “stripes” of pagodas and mountain trees. A shadow version of each stripe sits just above it, in the dark ground of the design, which is woven with airy, undulating dash-like lines suggestive of clouds or wind.
The tie has a wool interlining. No manufacturer’s label or fabric content tag is present; feels like a rayon brocade, perhaps Rhodia, which was quite popular during this period.
Measurements are 2.25” across the front blade and 52.5” long. Excellent condition.
