Made in the Philippines, this vintage late 1950s or early 1960s tissue silk blouse or shell features an exotic print which alternates bands of elephants, birds, and flowers. Print colors are red, blue, gold and white.
Scoop-necked and in a cropped length, the blouse closes in back with seven snaps under a placket decorated by 5 fabric-covered buttons. It would be perfect with capris or ankle pants in a coordinating color.
No lining, but there are bands of sheer silk facing at the neckline, hem, and armscyes; in solid white at the hem and, around the armscyes and neckline, in a whimsical bird-and-deer print that picks up the colors of the blouse.
Labelled “Elegant Dresses by Carmen, Angeles, Pamp”, indicating that the blouse was seamstress-made in the Philippine city of Angeles in Pampanga province. The site of the U.S. Clark Air Force Base from the early 20th century through 1991, Angeles entered a period of rapid growth in the post WWII-period.
Measurements are: Bust 35”, bottom hem circumference 33”, shoulder to waist 13.5”, center back to waist 13”.
