Vintage early to mid-1970s V-neck sweater top from Bago Ltd features a novelty Deco-style graphic in navy, rust, and wheat.
Knit of a silky, lightweight acrylic, the easy pullover style charms with its depiction of a snail making its way atop a zig-zagging band of chevrons, as the sun spreads its giant beams over a jagged mountainside that appears to be the snail’s destination. (To me, it suggests our collective trudge out of the darkness of the past year, towards a glorious dawn).
A rich navy grounds the scene in front; back is solid navy. The ribbed neckline, waistband and cuffs are rust, piped in wheat along the V-neck and cuff edges.
Label reads “Bago ltd”; the company specialized in sweaters, knit tops, and blouses from the early 70s into the early 80s.
Measurements (unstretched) are bust 36”, shoulders 16”, waist 30”, sleeve length (from shoulder seam) 23”, and length (center back to bottom) 22”. There is some “give” to the knit, probably about 1” at the bust and waist.
Good, condition, clean and bright, but with one discreet period mend in front near the waist (photos #9 and #10), which reads as slight bumpiness or pilling to the yarn. No pilling to the sweater otherwise.
