Vintage early 1960s slim, sleeveless sheath dress with chest “pocket” flaps features a pretty floral print in light/medium/dark brown tones on a soft white ground. A wide, cummerbund-like belt which buttons closed further defines the nipped in waist.
A combination of bust and vertical waist darts shape the bodice, and the curve hugging skirt has gentle pleats in front to ease the fit, with a kick pleat in back.
Lined with rayon satin in the seat of the skirt only, the dress closes with a back metal zipper and hook-and-eye.
Jacquarded with a lustrous, slightly raised tracery of circles, the fabric burn-tests inconclusively; it appears to be a blend of either rayon-cotton or cotton-silk.
Measurements are: Bust 36”, waist 26”, hips 35”, shoulder to waist 15.5”, and shoulder to hem 41”. The belt is 3” wide and 30” end to end (28” when buttoned closed); the self-fabric button is 1” in diameter.
Very good condition, clean and sturdy, with extremely subtle variability in the print tones, presumably due to the dye reacting to air and sun over time. The dress presents beautifully in spite of this issue.
