Vintage mid-1950s coppery brown rayon satin jacquard tie from Esquire features a surrealist panel design of Magritte-like open doors or windows in white, light blue, black and taupe, floating down the front and back blades.
The leaf pattern of the tonal jacquard seems to swirl around these suspended rectangles and emphasize their gravity-defying lack of motion.
The tie’s combination of a typical Bold Look era fabric and design with a slimmer width makes it an unusual example of pre-“skinny” tie, transitional neckwear. Tipped in white satin.
Label reads: “Esquire Cravat, Resilient Construction”, with the company’s stagecoach logo.
Measuring 53” long by 2.75” across the blade, this striking tie is in good condition, with a hint of colorfade to the neckband, and staining to the lining of the small blade.
