Antique handpainted porcelain stick pin dates ca. 1911-1913, as reflected by the coiffure and headdress of the lovely young lady whose miniature portrait graces it.
Whether the portrait depicts a real or idealized woman is unclear (my Vintage Fashion Guild colleagues see a resemblance to Theda Bara), but the detailing on it is charming, from the way the green bands on her gold-ornamented headdress pick up the color of her dress to her look of sensual innocence.
The flaw in the painting to the right of her nose, where the chestnut color of her hair runs into the dark magenta ground, appears an error of the artist and original to manufacture.
The stick pin measures a bit over 2" tall, with the oval element 5/8" tall and 7/16" across. Excellent condition, with minor wear to the goldtone metal setting.
