Vintage c.1967 gown in a simple sheath silhouette with yellow satin waist bow features a wonderful brocade of chartreuse green roses on a soft white ground.
The fitted, French-darted bodice eases from the high, empire waist into an A-line skirt. Generously scooped in back, the dress closes with a nylon zipper, concealed thanks to hooks-and-eyes at the top and midway down.
The soft but substantial fabric appears to be cotton, perhaps blended with a bit of silk or rayon that gives it the yellow-green roses a hint of lustre. The bodice, which has lingerie straps at the shoulders, is lined in yellow satin, and the skirt in a sheer muslin which helps to structure it.
The dress has the ILGWU union label in use from 1963 to 1974. A museum deaccession, the dress also has a paper inventory tag dating it to 1967. Measurements are as follows: Bust 34", empire waist 26", hips 36", bodice length (from shoulder) 13.5" and shoulder to hem 55.5".
Near-excellent condition, with a hint of darkening where the hem bottom brushes the floor, too faint for my camera to pick up and not visible while worn.
