Late 1970s ivory popcorn knit sweater and matching A-line knit skirt from Sonia Rykiel exemplify the designer’s playfully chic approach to sweater dressing.
The scoopneck sweater has ribbed cuffs and waistband, and an offset partial button placket with flirty bow accent at its bottom. Crescent-shaped knit sleeveheads right at the shoulder seam give the sleeves a gently puffed silhouette. The soft, lofty but lightweight knit feels like a wool blend, perhaps with silk or cotton.
Subtly flared, the kicky flat wool knit skirt has an ingenious faux kilt side closure, with a snap and two hooks-and-eyes on the waistband, and two ties 6” down, at the top of the hip. It is unlined.
The sweater label reads “Sonia Rykiel, Made in Italy”; the skirt label, simply “Sonia Rykiel”.
Measurements are as follows: Sweater (unstretched) bust 33.5”, shoulders 13.5”, sleeves 23”, waist 25” and length 21.5”; and skirt waist 26”, hips 36”, and length 26”.
