The lovely design on this mid-nineteenth century Victorian beaded purse features a central panel with a rose and oak leaf/acorn pattern in blue, green, rust and brown on a clay pink ground. The bottom panel has lilac-stemmed white and gold leaves on a teal blue ground, while the top band uses the same palette for a tiny floral design. Design is identical on both sides; looped fringe is white.
Measuring 5 ¾" across by 6" high (fringe adds another 1 ¼"), the purse is a deaccessioned piece from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection and has ink numbers inside the top (photo #8), presumably the museum's inventory number. It has no lining or frame, but the beadwork is in excellent condition.
