Vintage 1950s floral chiffon garden party dress with ruched bust, corset-like bodice, dropped waist, and full floaty skirt features a dramatic floating panel that trails from the right back shoulder. A play of vibrance against rich, subtle hues, the print colors--saffron, olive, and sepia on a soft white ground—are enhanced on the front bust by a sprinkling of iridescent sequins.
The long torsoed bodice is shaped by vertical seams (five in front, five in back) which stop at the underbust seam, creating a modified shelf bust effect. The front center seam extends up through the bust, dividing the ruching, and single lines of shirring “anchor” the wide, ruched shoulder straps, with a block of 4 shirred lines anchoring the floating panel in back. The drop waist seam is piped with a self-fabric rouleau.
The dress closes with a side metal zipper from hip to underarm, and is lined in peach acetate satin (faced in the bodice and forming a fullness-boosting “petticoat” in the skirt). The chiffon outerlayer of the dress burn tests as nylon.
No labels of any kind. Measurements are: Bust 33”, underbust 28”, natural waist (measured halfway between underbust and dropped waist) 25”, dropped waist 31”, hips free, length shoulder to drop waist 19”, length shoulder to hem 45”.
