A fine pair of 19th century miniature figural continental porcelain scent bottles, probably Dresden, of a lady and gentleman, both holding dogs, the heads of which are the tops and applicators of the scent bottles, which have mirror bases. 3.4ins (8.5cm) high.
Both figures are beautifully and tastefully painted and gilded, giving them real character.
Condition: Examination under ultraviolet and white light, and with a 10x loupe reveals no signs of damage, restoration, or repair, with the minor exception of flecks of wear to the mirrors in the bases.
There are a few tiny firing flaws, none prominent. The most noticeable are two adjacent and short firing cracks on the back of his jacket (see images). She has a few pinprick glaze bubbles to the front of her apron.
The chains holding each of the dogs’ heads to their collars are different lengths which may indicate that the shorter was broken and rejoined at some point.
