Alan M Hunt (British, b.1947) Study of a German Shorthaired Pointer Dog (2015). Acrylic on Canvas, Signed. 20” (51cm) x 19.75” (50cm).
Although unframed, the box canvas stretchers allow for it to be hung as it is (see images).
This is a fabulous painting from one of the best animal painters in the world. It is almost holographic, with the muzzle of the dog appearing to come out of the canvas. The 3D effect is given by the ultra-real pooch having been set against a blurred background. The regal character of the dog and its absolute focus on something over the viewer’s right shoulder has been captured wonderfully.
A visit to the artist’s website is highly recommended.
CONDITION: In very good condition. Ready to hang. There appear to be a couple of very minor scuffs in the upper left quadrant of the background that are unnoticeable in normal viewing and do not attract the eye even in close-up. No restoration.
BIOGRAPHY: Alan M Hunt was just 18 when he had his first solo art exhibition. His work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and worldwide private and public collections. Hunt has won The Society of Animal Artists' (USA) Award of Excellence four times and The Wildlife Art Society’s UK Best Artist in Show three years running.
