BIOGRAPHY:
Jurgen Gorg (b. 1951) German Artist, Printmaker & Sculptor
Jurgen Gorg studied visual arts for four years at the Johannes Guttenberg University in Mainz, having spent his younger years in Koblenz. His birthplace was in Dermbach, then West Germany. It was whilst at Johannes Guttenberg that he met and was inspired by his teacher, Saalfield, whom he credits for helping him produce works of such precision, honing the quality of the pieces which have come to mark his career.
Gorg first set his course as a printmaker and painter, and just three years after embarking on his professional career, he was recognised by the Rheinland Pfalz. area with a special award in 1980. He completed his first sculpture in 1990.
Jurgen Gorg’s artworks have become much sought after, as the Renaissance-inspired form of his work reflects a rediscovery and renewal of traditionally German figurative art, with subtle erotic qualities. Gorg’s pieces are populated with dancers, musicians, masked players, and lovers; young and lithe and imbued with a noble beauty. In Gorg’s own words: ".the human body; it is the body of the young slim beautiful person. The face remains vague, the gestures are those of free motion. Everything concentrates on the body language and the erotic radiation of the figures"
