A charming little British Victorian 9k gold shell cameo ring with pierced trefoil, fleur de lis shoulders. Birmingham, England assay marks. The date mark, though rubbed, is most likely”q” and so 1890-1891. Complete in a case of the period, although as the ring is a little loose in it we cannot be absolutely sure it is the original.
US size 4 ¼, UK size i.
Condition: Very good for a clearly well-loved ring of the period. Light wear. There is a tiny split in the collet that secures the cameo but we have examined this under high magnification and believe it to be original. It can be seen in one of the photos. The cameo is firmly held and secure.

So, why is a shop specializing in art listing an item of jewelry? My husband and his jackdaw mentality is why! He takes a fancy to something at an auction and he just has to have a go. In this case, it was the cufflinks that came in the same lot. I know he wants to keep them and I confess that I very much like this charming little ring. However, keeping it will only encourage him, so both must be sold!
Please note that although this ring is antique, duty may be payable for import outside the European Union (or even inside depending on how Brexit goes!). There may also be a small customs clearance charge.
