Andreas Gyula Bubarnik (Hungarian b.1936). Still Life of a basket of fruit, including grapes, apple, quince, peach and vine leaves, with brass flagon and tall wine glass. Oil on Panel.Signed lower right. Mounted in a well-matched black and brown painted wood frame. Sight (visible painting) measurements: 48cm x 68.5cm (19” x 27”). Frame measurements: 71cm x 91cm (28” x 35.75 in).
We rate this artist extremely highly, as good as or even better than many of the 17th Dutch still life painters of the “Golden Age” who were his inspiration. The immensely high degree of realism has been achieved by other artists but few have come anywhere near Bubarnik’s ability to create depth through perspective and light. If art is ever again judged first on technique and composition and not “concept” (plus self promotion and hype) then Bubarnik is likely to become rightly recognised as a master. His work has become highly collected and we feel sure will prove an excellent investment.
CONDITION: In excellent, ready to hang condition, with no signs of restoration found (inspected under ultraviolet (black) light). A few tiny scuffs to the frame.
BIOGRAPHY: Andreas Gyula Bubarnik was born in 1936 in a small town close to Budapest in Hungary and raised on his family farm. Through following his interest in art history and techniques he developed an exceptional realist style. Never indulging in self-promotion, little is known about the artist. He has allowed his work to speak for itself.
