FRAME: Mounted in a good, glazed, gilt wood frame, with double cream and brown lined mat. Frame dimensions 48cm x 38cm (19in x 15in).
CONDITION: Excellent. No staining, spotting, fading or restoration noted. Tiny oval indentation in the background to the right of the picture (note: painting not examined out of frame).
BIOGRAPHY: Evelyn Lina Linton, née Beckles, was born in 1888, Harlesden, in Middlesex, England. She won a scholarship to study at Hubert Herkomer's Art School at Bushey from 1907 to 1909. There, she met her future husband, the artist William Evans Linton, who she married in 1918. From Bushey, she moved to St Ives, in Cornwall. At her first exhibition at the St Ives Show Day in March, 1914, she exhibited as Miss Beckles. Later, she exhibited as Mrs Evans and then Evelyn Lina Linton. She is best known for portraits and and paintings of animals. Linton moved to Bristol in 1916. She exhibited often, her work is held in public collections and has been widely used to illustrate cards, books and calendars.
