BIOGRAPHY: William Arthur Laurie Carrick was born in Glasgow on 6th June 1879. He painted landscape and particularly coastal and beach scenes in oils and watercolours. Carrick initially served an apprenticeship as an architect under Sir J J Burnett and then practised for several years in Glasgow. He was forced to abandon this career because of ill health and then turned to painting. He lived for a time in Lanarkshire and Lancashire, then settled in the Morayshire fishing village of Findhorn in 1937, before retiring to Ardgowan, Kingussie, Inverness-shire. Carrick exhibited ten paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA), thirteen at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (RSW), eighty-nine at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (GI), one at the Aberdeen Artists Society (AAS) and nine at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool (L).
