A fine, fairly early work by this leading Scottish contemporary artist, a transitional point in his development towards more abstract landscapes.
PROVENANCE: Vicarage Cottage Gallery, North Shields (gallery label to reverse of frame), Contemporary Scottish Painting Exhibition, October, 1991, from where the painting was purchased by the previous owner, Mr R Cole (deceased) (see labels on reverse).
CONDITION: In excellent original, undamaged, ready to hang condition; small repaired chip to corner of frame.
BIOGRAPHY: Born in 1962, Christopher Wood is married with two young children and two step-children and lives and works in the coastal town of Dunbar, near Edinburgh. He trained at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with an Honours degree in Drawing & Painting in 1984 and has been a full-time professional artist since his first one-man exhibition in Edinburgh 1987.
He was elected Member of Visual Arts Scotland (VAS) in 1993, Member of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) in 2004 and Member of The Paisley Art Institute (PAI) in 2005, when he also became a member of The Glasgow Art Club. He was elected member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) in 2006 and board member of the Exhibiting Societies of Scotland (ESSA) also in 2006, serving until 2010. He was elected President of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) in 2009, in which capacity he still serves.
His Awards include: The Sir William Gillies Award (RSW 2009), The Glasgow Art Club Fellowship (RSW 2005), The Armour Award (RGI 1994) and The James Torrance Memorial Award (RGI 1993).
