This 13 inch tall doll, circa the 1930s, was manufactured by the Alexander Doll Company. She is composition and jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips. The Madame Alexander doll, representing McGuffey Ana, has sleep eyes, and open mouth with two upper teeth, and her original human hair wig in braids. The composition shows the typical all over minor crazing but there is no chipping, repaint, or repair. McGuffey Ana wears her original red plaid dress with its cloth tag. She also wears the original white cotton underclothing and red leather snap button shoes. The shoes are in good condition but the right one is missing the sole. I did not remove the safety pin and under clothing from this doll as I believe it has never been removed and I did not want to disturb the great originality. Madame Alexander named this doll after a character from the McGuffey Readers, books that were used to teach reading in schools during the 19th century and into the 20th century. One can imagine that little girls of the thirties would have been excited to buy a doll that they recognized as a hero from their school reading adventures.
