This 10 inch doll, circa the late 19th century, was manufactured by the German firm of J.D. Kestner. She has a bisque socket head and a ball jointed composition body. The doll has blue glass set eyes and a closed mouth with an almost pouty expression. She retains her original plaster pate and has a blonde human hair wig. The head is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The original body has the original finish except for the little hands that have been repainted. The back of the head is incised, “169.” There may be some other markings but these are too faint for me to read. The modeling of the head is wonderful especially on this small cabinet size doll. Miss Kestner wears an antique hand sewn cotton print dress. She also wears white cotton eyelet trimmed pantaloons. I love the size of this doll and know it would be fun to add a trunk and wardrobe.
