This 17 inch tall doll, circa 1912, was manufactured by the German firm of Armand Marseille. This doll is relatively rare especially in this larger size with the molded and painted hair and toddler body. If you are a collector of German character dolls, this little guy is a must. The boy has a solid dome head with blue glass sleep eyes and a closed, somewhat pouty, mouth. The modeling on this particular doll is early out of the mold and quite detailed. The head has no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a firing line on the top of the head where the two pieces of the head were originally pressed together. This is not a crack or later damage. Fany has his original ball jointed composition body that has been repainted sometime in the past. The back of the head is incised, “A. M.” The felt sailor suit and beret may be original to this doll. The felt does have some fading and age discoloration but is just perfect for this serious young lad.
