This 15 inch tall baby, circa the early 20th century, was manufactured by the German firm of J.D. Kestner. The baby has a bisque socket head and a bent limb baby body. The head has blue glass sleep eyes and an open mouth. The doll retains the original plaster pate and has a great auburn mohair wig that looks great with this doll’s complexion and painted eyebrows. The back of the head is incised, “G. Made in 11.//Germany.//J.D.K.//211.” The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The bent limb composition baby body has been repainted some time ago and the stringing is slightly loose. Baby Kestner wears an old cream color knit romper with a matching cap. I have always loved the 211 character mold and this one is particularly appealing especially with the red wig.
