This 21 inch tall doll, circa 1926, is labeled Georgene Averill. The bisque flange neck head was manufactured by Alt, Beck, & Gottschalck and the doll was distributed by George Borgfeldt & Company of New York City. The bisque head has brown glass sleep eyes, a solid dome head, and an open mouth with two lower teeth and a wobble tongue. The body is cloth with composition lower arms and legs. The head is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There a few inherent spots on the left cheek. The body is sturdy with age discoloration to the fabric while the composition limbs show the typical flaking to the painted surface. The back of the neck is incised, “Copr. by//Georgene Averill//7005/3652.” The doll wears a white cotton baby dress and bonnet with knit booties. I will release a few stitches from the seam on the cloth body on the seam by the side of the head to stuff the head for shipment. I do want the sleep eyes to be secure during shipment. The buyer can leave the tissue stuffing in the head or remove it and stitch the seam closed again. The Bonnie Babe pudgy face with chubby cheeks and dimples always makes me smile.
