This 12 inch tall doll has a 3 ½ inch tall china shoulderhead, circa the 1840s, manufactured in Germany by the Kister Porcelain Factory. The china head has molded and painted facial features and a fancy hairstyle. The hairstyle has a fancy braided bun in the back of the head. The doll also has a slightly molded shoulder plate to represent upper breasts. The antique cloth body is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. The arms are created from white kid leather. The body is sturdy with wear to the delicate kid leather arms. The china head is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a mold line, on the right shoulder, that shows slight separation created when the doll head was fired. This is not damage but simply part of the firing process. The doll comes to her new owner ready to be dressed. She would be lovely in antique cotton period dress. Since I did not have one, I decided this would be a good project for her new owner. This is a wonderful example of an early china head doll.
