Vintage Cloth Black Folk Art Doll
This 8 inch tall doll, circa, I believe, the 1920s-30s, but she may be earlier, has been created from rolled tubes of black cotton fabric. The head, arms, and legs are all tightly rolled and then stitched creating tubes of cloth. The doll is jointed at the shoulders and hips. Her facial features are embroidered and her eyes are tiny French knots. The gray hair also appears to have been created from embroidery floss. The brown cotton print dress is accompanied by a white cotton petticoat and blue striped pantaloons. The entire doll and all of the clothing has been completely hand stitched. What an ingenious way to create a doll with great folk art charm!
