This 16 inch tall china head doll, circa the 1850s, was manufactured in Germany. She has painted facial features with blue eyes, molded ears, and a solid dome bald head with a black painted circle on top. The cloth body, jointed at the shoulders is most likely original to the doll but the china arms have probably been replaced. They are beautiful well modeled antique arms with delicately delineated fingers but are from a little later vintage than the head. I believe the human hair wig is original to the doll. She wears a wonderful ethnic costume complete with underclothing, embroidered socks, and red leather shoes. The head and hands are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The cloth body is sturdy. The costume is also in good condition except for some fraying and age deterioration/discoloration especially on the red border on the skirt. This is an especially lovely china head doll with a detailed antique ethnic costume.
