French S.F.B.J. Paris Composition Socket Head Doll

This 12 inch tall doll, circa the early 20th century, was manufactured by S.F.B.J. in Paris, France. The doll has a composition socket head with a closed mouth and brown sleep eyes. The body, that appears to be original to the head, is a composition/wood jointed body in good condition except for a missing left hand middle finger. The head is also in good condition with no repaint or repair. The eyes still sleep but the right eye is missing the eyelashes. The doll is incised, on the back of the head, “SFBJ//Paris//0.” She wears an old red cotton dress with a beige ribbon tie at the waist. She also wears white knit socks and old beige leather shoes. The brunette human hair wig, in the original set, appears to be original to the doll. There is no pate and there might never have been one. This is a great cabinet size doll and quite affordable for an old French doll. She is something of a standard size so it would be enjoyable for the new owner to sew or gather a wardrobe for this French doll.
